The band was formed way back in 1985 and their natural ability to flawlessly re-create Clapton’s electrifying stage performances really caught the public's imagination. The frontman (Mike Hall) not only looks the double of Eric Clapton but he also sings and plays guitar like him too!
In 1999, Mike won a national lookalike competition held at Madam Tussauds in London. He has met Clapton twice and even received a message of encouragement from the guitar wizard himself.

The Blues Brothers

The 'Original' Tribute to the 'Blues Brothers' previously known and accredited worldwide as 'The Official Tribute to the 'Blues Brothers'has performed three hugely successful times in London's' West End' and has had productions all over Europe and as far afield as South Africa and Australia.
Comprising of 'Jake and Elwood' (Brad Henshaw and Mark Lawson) the show encompasses two great backing singers known as the Blue-ets and the amazing Severn piece 'Blues Brothers Band.
The band's MD 'Steve Parry has been involved with the show for many years and has also performed and created musical scores for West End Productions such as "The Play What I wrote' and 'Ductastic"..!
The show is one of the finest in the 'Tribute field'

Tipitina

Very, very rarely a new young band emerges as if out of nowhere, fully formed and matured, playing familiar material but in a definitively personal manner and you know from the first moment you hear them that this band is destined for big things.
Tipitina formed in 2005 and will release their first recording on November 1st, entitled “I Wish I Was In New Orleans” on Big Bear Records [BEARDCD47]. The early reactions to the CD are overwhelming. It looks like Tipitina are on the way to establishing themselves as the next big act to emerge from the jazz, blues and soul firmament and follow in the footsteps of Jamie Cullum, Amy Winehouse, Madeleine Peyroux, Joss Stone et al.

Jonny Boston

JONNY BOSTON excelled in music at Christ's Hospital, a school where he was nurtured and encouraged. He debuted aged 15 with Bahrain Jazz Quartet in the Middle East. Legendary cornetist Phil Mason first heard him busking on the Underground, which led to tours throughout Europe with Max Collie Rhythm Aces by the age of 18. Jonny left Max to study at Leeds College of Music, where he sailed through his Graduate Diploma in Jazz & Contemporary Music with Honours! While there, he won the Yorkshire TV Young Jazz Player of the Year. The judges included Chris Barber, who later invited Jonny’s band, Boston Tea Party, to perform with his Jazz & Blues Band.
Since returning to London, in 1998, he has played with such bands as Phil Mason’s New Orleans All Stars, The Pasadena Roof Orchestra, King Pleasure & The Biscuit Boys, Barry Martyn & The Young Bloods, Ginger Pig Band and TJ Johnson’s Bourbon Kick. He's also played with Ken Peplowski, Roy Hargrove, John Dankworth, Guy Barker, Georgie Fame, Jamie Cullum and even Eddie Izzard to name a few. Venues of note include Blenheim Palace, Royal Festival Hall, The Ritz, St David’s Hall, and London clubs The Boisdale Club, The 606 Club, Ronnie Scott's, and the much frequented 100 Club on Oxford St. He has even played alongside the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra!

King Pleasure

What does the title ‘King Pleasure’ evoke? In this context it suggests eating, drinking, spending money, chasing chicks, having a good time, overdoing it more than somewhat and explaining the events of the night before to the judge on the morning after. All apt topics for song and celebration, especially in these grim times. So much pop music nowadays is full of anger and violence on the one hand, and slack-jawed stupidity on the other, and so much contemporary jazz is excessively earnest and glum, that we are in urgent need of music that comes with a cheer-up guarantee. That is exactly what King Pleasure and the Biscuit Boys unfailingly deliver.
But what kind of music is it? Well, if you’ll kindly lay aside that list of runners and riders once more, I’ll attempt a brief historical sketch. Ahem! When the great Swing Era ended, in the mid - 1940s, it broke apart and the various bits started growing into styles of their own. One of these dance-hall rhythm and blues, as performed by such names as Lucky Millinder, Buddy Johnson and Louis Jordan, at places like Harlem’s Savoy Ballroom. This, I think, is the root of the Biscuit Boys’ style, although their own distinctive approach has by now developed quite a long way from there.

London Community Gospel Choir

In 1982 a dream and a vision came alive. Revd. Bazil Meade, with the help of Lawrence Johnson, Delroy Powell and John Francis, made a mark in history pioneering the first concert gospel choir in Britain – The London Community Gospel Choir (LCGC). The reputation of the Choir has grown from these humble beginnings – and in 2006 they have recorded the Official World Cup Song together with the rock band Embrace for the England team in Germany! Other highlights include recording the soundtrack for the Disney classic “The Lion King”.
Trying to fit LCGC into a neat slot is virtually impossible. They are adaptable, flexible and create dynamic melodies with rich harmonies whether they are performing as an octet or a 30-strong choir. LCGC is known for their funky gospel flair, swing-beat, R'n'B, traditional and soulful arrangements, with invigorating choreography and vocal gymnastics.
Its members perform just about anywhere - private corporate functions, after-show parties, conferences, schools, cabaret functions, clubs, weddings, christenings, funerals, prisons, churches, open-air festivals, theatres and concert halls.

The Meier Group

Swiss guitarist Nicolas Meier is one of the rising stars of a vibrant British jazz scene, his trademark sound a mixture of Methenyesque jazz and spicy Turkish and world music rhythms. Already well known in Europe, where his Meier Group have toured extensively and shared the bill with such illustrious names as Elvin Jones, Brad Meldau, Trilok Gurtu and Bill Evans. Meier and his band recently won the enormously prestigious Grand Prize Of The Jury and 1st Prize Jazz Guitar at Jazz a Juan Revelations 2006 a competition for the finest new jazz musicians and bands in Europe run by the legendary Jazz A Juan Festival. But he is becoming increasingly well known in his adopted country as well where his Meier group features brilliant Israeli world-bebop saxophonist Gilad Atzmon, bassist Tom Mason and drummer Asaf Sirkis who all contributed to his hugely well received Naim label debut ‘Orient’ (alongside noted hard bop and fusion saxophonist Dave O’Higgins).

John Escreet

John Escreet will return to The Sands Venue as a leader, with a new quartet featuring some of the most exciting young musicians on the New York music scene.
John was born in Doncaster, and grew up playing piano in the Doncaster Jazz Orchestra. After establishing himself on the London and UK jazz scene performing with the likes of Dennis Rollins, Julian Siegel, Denys Baptiste, Dave O’Higgins, Stan Sulzmann, Kyle Eastwood and countless others, he decided to make his home in New York one year ago, where he currently resides and performs with some of the greatest musicians in the world. For this one-off event, John will be performing with two of his contemporaries from the New York scene, with whom he has formed strong musical bonds since being in the States. These kindred spirits have come together in New York from various parts of the globe, and have been developing and exchanging their musical ideas over the past year.

This Spring, Ola Onabule has extended his Autumn tour and will be performing extensively in the UK and Europe to support the release of his new album THE DEVOURED MAN. Last Autumn he played 5 sell out shows at Ronnie Scotts, London and a full house at the Blue Note, New York accompanied by his US band led by Ivan Bodley (bass player and MDto Sam Moore andSolomon Burke amongst others).
Ola has just returned from a very successful German tour which took in Cologne, Berlin, Hamburg and Minden amongst others. This summer Ola will appear at severalEuropean and US Festivals. Ola's dates last Autumn included three major German festivals, Leverkeusen, Ingolstadt and Aalener Jazz festivals appearing on the same bill as Diane Reeves, Maceo Parker, Hiram Bullock and Raul Midon.Ola's following in the US continues to rise, with several visits under his belt including, most recently, an appearance at the prestigious Kennedy Performing Arts Centre in Washington D.C. This Spring Ola will perform at SOBs in New York and alsoa concert at the Homer Centre for the Performing Arts, New York State, will be filmed by PBS Television in the US and broadcast shortly thereafter.

Not many Big Bands can honestly say that their first singer was HARRY CONNICK Jnr. The Memphis Belle Swing Orchestra can say that with pride.
Band Leader Greg Francis ( who appeared in the film) was asked to form a young band to appear in the David Putnam blockbuster movie ‘Memphis Belle’
So successful was the outcome, that Greg kept the band together and they have been touring ever since. As well as theatres, and prestigious events they have been asked to play for Royalty, appeared on TV, performed on the QE2 and most recently been touring in Europe.
Dressed in the 8th American Army uniform, the orchestra play a wide range of music from the 1940’s era, including that of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Harry James, Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw as well as some of the great tunes from the Memphis Belle movie.

Seven years ago Acker was honoured with an MBE for his services to the music industry, and in 2005 Acker was awarded the BBC Jazz Award for his unique contribution to Jazz in the UK. Demobbed Acker formed his first Band in Bristol, then he and Jean moved to London so he could become the clarinettist with The Ken Colyer Band, but he hated London and returned to Bristol to form the Bristol Paramount Jazz Band. In 1951 this Band returned to London and Jean and Acker survived in a factory attic in Plaistow until the Band got their first big break – six weeks constant playing in a beer bar in Dusseldorf, Germany.
